the sky we share
on the beauty of life
“How beautiful it is tonight. Do you see the Big Dipper in the sky? Look, there’s the North Star, the brightest of them all.” I would hear these words every warm summer evening when my dad and I sat in our yard, looking up at the quiet, endless sky.
He would almost pull me out of the house so we could admire it together. At first, I would feel reluctant, interrupted from whatever I was doing at that moment, but I always kept him company. We would talk about life, the past, and the present, and each time I saw a falling star, I secretly made a wish. Maybe he did too.
My dad never stopped noticing the little things that life has given us. The stars, the way the moon looked are just examples. But one day, I promised myself that whenever life became too heavy, whenever sadness or loneliness settled in, I would look up too. I would watch the sky and remember that everyone I loved and everyone I still cared about was looking up at the same sky, no matter how far away they were.
And for a moment, we would be standing beneath the same stars together.
with love, Nia
